We live in a small new york city apartment with a tiny kitchen and no outdoor space… but we’ve always wanted to have a garden to grow our own food. So when we heard about AeroGarden and hydroponic gardening indoors, we had to try it!

Aerogarden sells small indoor garden kits that can grow herbs, vegetables and flowers on a small kitchen counter. The Harvest model allows you to grow 6 plants easily and hassle free. Best of all, they’re organic, non GMO plants.

We have the copper Harvest Elite model and the gourmet herbs kit, which included Thai Basil, Genovese Basil, Thyme, Curly Parsley and Dill.

Fresh herbs all year round, even in the dead of winter? Yes please!

Aerogarden has plenty of other seed kit options, including tomatoes, peppers, salad greens, flowers and other heirloom vegetables. All of the Aerogarden seeds are non GMO, without herbicides or pesticides which is what attracted me to the company.

Even better, the Aerogarden uses hydroponics, so the plants grow in water. No soil and no mess! The Harvest model even has a “travel” setting the plants can sustain themselves if you have a short trip.

So far just one month in, we love the Aerogarden and have made pesto, Thai basil fried rice and fresh minty mojitos.

But we also had some busts.

Two of the plants failed to sprout and grow, so we learned some trouble shooting tips and tricks for caring for the AeroGarden. Watch until the end so you know how to set up the Aerogarden properly and avoid our mistakes!
